........
- The caring touch of a masseur can enable deep
relaxation, giving respite from the stresses of modern life. Skilful hands can
seek out sites of restriction, pain and imbalance, bringing ease and comfort.
It can also provide a means of exploring the intricate links between body,
mind and spirit, enabling the recipient to release unhelpful patterns of
restriction and approach a more harmonious state of living.
- Therapeutic massage builds upon these skills
to explore the wonders of the bodies` structure and function both in health
and disease. It offers a practical way to promote better health and to assist
in the healing of many disorders. Increasingly, as conventional medicine looks
to improve its services and success, therapeutic masseurs form an important
part of the health care team.
- Professional therapeutic masseurs work in a
wide range of environments such as hospitals, GP surgeries, health centres,
residential homes, hospices, sports and fitness centres and natural health
clinics. Opportunities for employment are still increasing at a rapid
rate.
- No previous experience in massage is
necessary although students who have already obtained qualifications elsewhere
and wish to augment their skills with an in-depth course will be welcomed and
will find their interest in massage rejuvenated.
- Many massage courses are shorter and some may
seem cheaper but we believe that this comprehensive training fully prepares
students to begin professional practice with confidence and enthusiasm.
- We welcome students of all ages and
backgrounds. Academic qualifications are not essential. Commitment and
enthusiasm are !!
- We aim to make learning an enjoyable
experience.
- We take every opportunity to support your
personal development throughout the course.
- Groups are small, providing a high level of
tutor to student time and attention.
- We are well established - we have been
training massage students in Gloucestershire since 1991.
- Maitri Foundation is affiliated to, and all
our students become members of, the Association of Physical and Natural
Therapists (APNT) who are renowned for the high quality of their professional
standards. APNT are active members of both the British Massage Therapy Council
and the British Complementary Medicine Association who are the national
governing bodies for massage practitioners.
- The two main tutors on this course are both
established local practitioners. Sheila Kean has been teaching massage since
1986 and established the Maitri Foundation in 1991. Her co-tutor, Martin
Taylor has been teaching massage for a number of years and is currently
involved with the British Massage Therapy Council, establishing the national
standards of massage training. Sheila and Martin are also Craniosacral
practitioners and teach Craniosacral Therapy in both the UK and abroad.
- The course is taught in a peaceful location
near Stroud. There is ample parking and we are within easy reach of National
Express and British Rail. Bed & Breakfast is available nearby for those
travelling to the course from greater distances. The atmosphere here is
relaxed and friendly which we believe promotes a greater ability to
learn.
