What will be taught on the course?

·        We shall be looking at each of the systems of the body in turn, studying their individual characteristics and also their relationships to each other.

·        The course will look at the anatomy (the structure), the physiology (the study of body function) and the pathology (what happens when it goes wrong) of each of these systems.

·        A variety of teaching tools and styles will be used we are definitely not a chalk and talk school! As well as some traditional teaching presentations we use quizzes, activities, small group work, practical work and video presentations to present a lively and varied programme.

·        Homestudy will be given at each seminar and must be fully completed to a satisfactory standard before graduation.

·        Full course notes will be provided. Students will be required to purchase a small number of text books.

Who is this course for?

This course is for you if you are interested in learning about the wonders of the human body and how it functions when it is well, and also during processes of disease. Some course participants will be complementary practitioners who have a wish or need to increase their studies in this field. However the course is also suitable for people with no former study in this area, or who have no particular use for their new knowledge, but who have a fascination with the human body and a keen wish to explore it further.

Who is teaching the course?

Sheila Kean will be the course tutor. She trained in Massage in 1984 and Craniosacral Therapy in 1985. She has been teaching massage since 1986 and developed the Maitri Foundation in 1991. Sheila is also a Craniosacral Therapy teacher in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. She was formerly a Science Teacher in secondary schools. She is passionate about enabling and encouraging everybody who has an interest in the human body to discover how it functions in both health and disease. Sheila has held a busy practice in Stroud since 1985.

What is the assessment procedure?

The course is externally assessed by the Association of Physical and Natural Therapists (APNT).  The main assessment is by a written examination but there will also be continuing assessment of homework and course work throughout the seminars.
